v0.1.7
A new update, which implements the last of the demo day feedback. All of this fiddling with Godot UI tools has been profoundly exhausting, so much so that I had to take a break from it and added a feature from my "would be nice, but probably too much for an initial release" features list. I found a particularly suitable feature here: A Fatigue Meter.
This fatigue system actually fits in really nicely with my existing game design goals: It emphasizes the "recovery" portion of core gameplay loop, it integrates nicely with the "heavier equipment make you move slower" mechanic by adding a "wielding heavier items items causes you to fatigue faster" (which further distinguishes between the light fighter & heavy fighter playstyles available to the player).
This mechanic quite significantly changed the feel of the gameplay to me, but I find it quite fun. Especially so when introducing the recovery mechanic: Bardic Instruments. Have one of your party members play the lute while you sort through the loot after an encounter, or have a few bagpipers playing to keep your troops fighting vigorously in protracted battles. The bagpipe truly is an instrument of war. There's also a potion for fatigue removal, but I'm considering weakening it because I enjoy the bardic mechanic so much.
I shall most likely implement a similar "Elemental Meditation" mechanic for re-charging Spellbooks.
New Features:
- Sound!
- UI Scaling!
- Settings Menu!
- Set custom key binds.
- Balance audio levels.
- Fatigue:
- Combat gradually fatigues units.
- Fatigued units move and attack slower.
- It is possible to become completely paralyzed with fatigue.
- Heavier weapons and armour cause fatigue faster.
- The undead never tire.
- Bardic Respite:
- Wash away the fatigue with the Lute
- Or enjoy some Posca, the gatorade of the Roman legions.
- Milk also removes fatigue.
Bug Fixes:
- I did some additional fidgeting with the save system on this version to integrate the settings, and it feels dependable to me now.
