Ratfall
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
Flavour Text:
The year is 1689 A.F., Earth has been rendered inhospitable by Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical doomsday weapons. A race of genetically engineered lab-rat uplifts has arisen from the ashes of the ancient human nations, seeking ancient treasures and industrial resources for their National Spirits and Napoleon-punk scavenger-fleets.
Instructions:
The game is divided into 2 phases:
- Arms Race
- In this phase, you are building up your forces.
- Use your Build Points to place armies on hexes you control.
- You must place your capital before the last turn of the build phase
- Conquest
- In this phase, you get build points every turn based upon how many hexes you control.
- You will also now get Command Points, which you can use to move & attack
- Once you run out of command points, you won't be able to move or attack any more until next turn.
- Each player gets 12 command points each turn, no matter what.
Win the game by capturing all player capitals and holding them for one turn.
Gamedev Commentary:
The ingredients for this game were playing many games of risk, seeing the Napoleon movie, and having a look at my old Mausgard comics over the holidays. I've also set up a cloud multiplayer server, and a lobby system to facilitate matchmaking.
Unfortunately, there is no single player experience for this game at the moment, but I'll be hopping on periodically during the weeks after Demo Day. Connecting to the server will require an internet connection.
Also, there's a Gacha system, with Edelweiss as a currency! I'm especially pleased by Godot's tweening system which I used to create procedural animations for those. I recommend having a look at their docs regarding it, as it is not quite so complicated as one might initially judge it to be.
